Your authentic self is not going to be right for every place.
That doesn’t mean that there is something wrong with your authentic self.
It also doesn’t necessarily mean that there is something wrong with the place.
Two things can be correct at the same time.
Are there places that aren’t great for people?
Sure.
Are those same places good for other people who aren’t that first person?
Very possible.
That doesn’t mean that you have to change to fit the environment. It just means that fish judged by how it can ride a bike will appear unintelligent in every situation.
I talk a lot about workplace toxicity and the damage that that can do, but we also should talk about the fact that some places aren’t toxic as much as they’re just not right.
I would suffocate under the weight of a fully corporate, big company environment.
My husband would hate start-up life. The lack of structure would be impossible for him.
That doesn’t mean that there is anything wrong with either place. It just means that you’re not meant to fit into every box.
It doesn’t have to be the worst place in the world to also be the wrong place for you.
